Cruise Asia One Of The Most Popular Destinations

Cruise Asia One Of The Most Popular Destinations

Asia works for couples, singles and families. Cruising removes much of the logistical work involved in coordinating accommodation and transportation across a hugely diverse region. In other words: it’s easy and safe.

You can sail to and from Bali, to Japan and along the Mekong River through Vietnam and Cambodia.

It’s exciting, exotic and amazingly good value. Asia is shaping up as one of cruising’s hottest destinations for 2027.

Singapore is strengthening its position as the region’s major cruise hub, Japan continues to attract an extraordinary range of ships, and cruise lines are offering everything from three-night family escapes to month-long journeys across the region.

The appeal is obvious. Asia is considerably closer than Europe, direct flights connect New Zealand with major cruise gateways such as Singapore and Tokyo, and a single cruise can combine some dramatically different destinations.

One day you might be eating street food in Penang; a few days later exploring Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City or Hong Kong.

Join Many Who Are Travelling To Asia.

Singapore and the ports of Southeast Asia are emerging as strong alternatives to the traditional Mediterranean fly-cruise, offering New Zealanders relatively short flights, an expanding choice of ships and the opportunity to visit several countries without the expense — or current uncertainty — involved in travelling to Europe.

There is also a new layer of uncertainty around some traditional routes to Europe. Continuing military conflict in the Middle East.

Europe is also having a difficult summer. Extreme heat has again swept the continent, with temperatures above 40C, and fires in Spain, France and Greece

Overtourism is intensifying. Major European destinations.

None of this means we will stop cruising the Mediterranean. Europe remains one of cruising’s great destinations.

But it does make Asia look increasingly attractive, with many of us taking holidays in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam or Indonesia.

The Cities Of Asia

Singapore
From the colonial character of Raffles Hotel to the many churches, temples and mosques of Pagoda Street, the city presents a fascinating diversity of architectural styles and personal beliefs. You'll feel the layers of generations in Chinatown too, where you can chow down on bowls of spicy laksa Right next door is Little India with its famous Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple. And there's Kampong Gelam, a traditional neighborhood that has evolved into a mecca for artistic creativity and a melting pot of diverse cultures
Ho Chi Minh City
Vibrating with energy, innovation and traffic – lots of traffic – Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, is the economic heart of Vietnam and the main hub of the southern region. A freewheeling, cosmopolitan metropolis, HCMC's dynamic cityscape draws together old and new Vietnam in the most compact of spaces, representing the city’s past as well as its future.
Hong Kong
Delectable dim sum, floating islands, and a one-of-a-kind skyline are just some of Hong Kong’s enchanting features. Eat your way across Temple Street Night Market with its fish balls or settle in for dim sum at Michelin-starred venues like Tim Ho Wan. Take the tram to the tippity-top of Victoria Peak for skyscraper views. The gentle hills of Nan Lian Garden will deliver serenity, but a detour through the city’s cocktail bars will bring back Hong Kong’s urban buzz.
Halong Bay, Vietnam
Halong Bay is a breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Site in northeastern Vietnam, roughly 170 km east of Hanoi. Famous for its emerald waters and nearly 2,000 towering limestone karst islands and islets, it offers world-class cruising, sea kayaking, and exploration of massive hidden caves
Shanghai
Shanghai, on China’s central coast, is the country's biggest city and a global financial hub. Its heart is the Bund, a famed waterfront promenade lined with colonial-era buildings. Across the Huangpu River rises the Pudong district’s futuristic skyline, including 632m Shanghai Tower and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, with distinctive pink spheres. Sprawling Yu Garden has traditional pavilions, towers and ponds
